Post & Core from a Full-Service Dental Lab

We fabricate post and core restorations in-house — fiber posts, metal posts, and cast post and cores — from your scan or impression. No brokering, no subcontracting. Standard turnaround 2–3 days. Rush cases 1–2 days. Digital workflow accepted: STL, PLY, OBJ, 3oxz, DCM, or a physical impression.

It seems we can't find what you're looking for.

If a fiber restoration does fail, the post is usually retrievable and the root can be reused. That is a recognized reason clinicians choose fiber — and it is the one dimension the survival numbers do not settle. Comparative reviews of fiber versus metal posts find no statistically significant difference in overall survival, so the choice usually turns on retrievability and position rather than strength.

Cast Post & Core

Cast to your alloy — gold alloy, palladium-silver, or base metal. Post and core arrive as one unit. This is the option for canals that are irregular, curved, or too narrow to seat a prefabricated post reliably.

The casting is done in our own metal department. A prosthetically guided fabrication technique — where the pattern is built against the planned crown contour rather than the canal alone — gives a core that seats with the restoration already in mind. Ask for it on the Rx if your case needs it.

CAD/CAM Post & Core

Milled from zirconia or PMMA blank. You send the scan, we design and mill on the same workflow used for our crown and bridge restorations. CAD/CAM post and core literature covers the approach in detail if you want the indication criteria before you order.

Why Order Post & Core From a Direct Factory

Most of what gets called a post and core is decided before the lab ever sees the case: which post, how deep, how much dentin comes out. What a factory controls is everything after your preparation — fit, material, and whether the case comes back the same way twice.

  1. Fit you can verify at delivery. Every case is checked on the model before it ships, so marginal discrepancy is found here rather than in your chair.
  2. The same result on the same case next month. The design file is retained against your case ID. If you resend the same preparation, you get the same post and core, not a fresh approximation.
  3. One accountable party. If something is off — marginal fit, occlusal contact, shade — the case goes back into the hands that built it. There is no triage step and no handoff to a source you did not choose.
  4. Documented materials. Post and core alloy batches are logged against the case, so a batch can be traced back years later.

What a Broker Adds Between You and the Bench

Where a broker or trading company sits in the middle, the case passes through an extra set of hands between your design intent and the mill. Each handoff is a place where a specification can quietly change. Direct factory means the person who designs the case is the person whose bench it ships from.

Our Manufacturing Workflow

Five steps, all in-house. Your case does not leave our building between steps.

  1. Case Intake & Data Verification

Send the scan, your Rx, and photos. A case coordinator checks completeness within 1 business day and flags anything missing before the design queue starts. The check is specific: margin definition readable, no mesh defects in the canal region, opposing and adjacent teeth captured, occlusion recorded. A defect here is inexpensive to correct at intake and expensive to correct after milling.

  1. Digitales Design

Designed on validated dental CAD. The design follows your specified post path and core extent — we follow the prescription, we do not substitute a different post system to make the case easier to mill. Anything the scan cannot carry goes on the Rx and gets entered as a design parameter rather than assumed: cement space, collar height, ferrule relief, and the luting system you plan to use.

  1. Fabrication

Prefabricated: post seated and verified, core built to design in composite or machined from PMMA. Cast: wax pattern, investment, cast in your chosen alloy, finished internally. CAD/CAM: design finalized, milled from blank, sintered or polymerized. Material and case type are zoned separately in production, so a metal case and a resin case do not share a work surface.

  1. Finishing & Margin Check

Each unit is finished and inspected under magnification. Margin continuity, seating path, and occlusal anatomy are checked against the approved design.

  1. QC, Documentation & Shipment

Final inspection against your Rx. Every case carries a unique case ID, and the log records the technician, equipment, material batch, and each inspection result.

Working With ASD

Submitting a Case

Digital: intraoral scan in STL, PLY, OBJ, 3oxz, or DCM format. Physical: impression or model — VPS, polyether, stone models, die models, and 3D-printed resin models accepted. Every case: Rx with post type, core material, and any special instruction. Photos. Shade if a crown follows.

Scan systems already working in your practice: 3Shape TRIOS, Medit, iTero, CEREC, Shining3D Aoralscan, Planmeca. Anything exporting a standard open file format is accepted.

Design Approval

You get a preview before anything gets milled — screenshot or STL link, typically within 1 business day of complete data. Changes are recorded with a timestamp in the case system, and the design is locked on your approval. Clinician-technician communication is the part of the workflow most likely to cost you a remake, which is why it gets an explicit approval step rather than a phone call.

Turnaround

Standard cases run 2–3 business days and rushed cases 1–2, across all three product forms. Rush carries no surcharge on orders containing fewer than 10 units per month. Mark the case URGENT on the Rx and on the outside of the package.

Quality Standards

Verification is done with magnification and digital measurement, not by eye alone. Restorability fundamentals from the American Association of Endodontists set the clinical frame: if a preparation is not restorability-sound, no amount of lab-side precision changes the outcome. That is a chair-side decision, and we build to whatever you specify.

Materials Available

Posts: fiber (glass and carbon), stainless steel, titanium. Cores: photo-polymerized composite, reinforced composite, glass ionomer, PMMA. Base metals: cobalt-chromium, Vitallium, pure titanium, PEEK. CAD/CAM blanks: multi-layer zirconia, PMMA.

Working with a brand you already use? Specify it on the Rx. We produce to customer-specified brands and batches, including the batch number on the material certificate.

Credentials

ISO 13485 — dental laboratory quality management system. CE marking — European medical device compliance. Case-level traceability and safety data sheets available on request. Destination-requirement compliance confirmed at intake, so materials and labelling match the market the case is shipping into.

Capacity

Roughly 460 staff across design, milling, implant, ceramic and metal, removable, quality control, and case coordination — supported by about 50 trained backup workers in peak season. ASD dental lab is a manufacturing facility, not a trading company. Shenzhen and Huizhou, China, with a U.S. office in Fountain Valley, California. Founded 2012. Over 50 dental laboratories, 100 dental clinics, and 400 dentists served. Production facilities are open to inspection — factory visit, line tour, or a video walkthrough, whichever fits your schedule.

Pricing

Unit price is set by unit count, material, and design complexity. Implant components and unusual geometry add to the base. Talk to your account manager for a quote on your case mix — a B2B price list goes out on request.

FAQ

Q1. When is a post and core not indicated?

A post is not indicated when the tooth has enough remaining structure to hold a core on its own. Clinical guidelines for using posts put it plainly: the post provides retention, not reinforcement — it does not make a weak tooth strong. If the remaining walls and height can carry a direct core, preparing post space only removes more dentin from an already compromised tooth. Send the scan if you are unsure; we will tell you whether the geometry supports a direct core before you commit to removing post space.

Post length should be roughly two-thirds to three-quarters the length of the remaining root. Apical seal integrity requires leaving 4–5 mm of gutta-percha at the apex undisturbed. Post diameter should not exceed one-third the root diameter at the narrowest point, because a wider preparation thins the root wall. Ferrule — a 1.5–2 mm collar of sound tooth structure around the preparation margin — is the factor most closely tied to long-term survival. If the preparation does not meet these, flag it before milling.

On your side, prefabricated cases can be prepped, impressed, and temporized in a single visit. Cast cases need two — one for impression and temporization, one for cementation once the casting comes back.

Tell us and we re-cut it. Binding on trial insertion is a fabrication fault on our side, and it is the defect most worth catching before cementation. A forced post can create root fractures that do not show up until much later.

None without approval. A material change is notified in advance and confirmed with you in writing, with the change and the time recorded in the case system.

Pack it properly — damaged models produce ill-fitting restorations and cost you a new impression. Send by DHL or UPS; for turnaround reliability we suggest UPS Saver or DHL Express 12:00. If you would rather run it through our shipping account, tell your coordinator and we will arrange it.
